English: Coat of arms of the Danish town Hillerød. In use since 1787. Registered 1938. The flowering elder tree is a canting element as the Danish word for elder ("hyld") sounds similar to Hillerød. The real etymology of the town's name is unconnected to elders but means "the place where Hilde cleared the forest".
Dansk: Hillerøds byvåben. I brug siden 1787. Registreret 1938. Det blomstrende hyldetræ er et talende element. Selvom ordet "hyld" lydmæssigt ligger tæt op af Hillerøds navn, er der dog ingen etymologisk forbindelse. Navnet betyder i stedet "det sted, hvor Hilde ryddede skoven".
