Object history
Deutsch: Die Herren von Geroldseck spielten vom 13. Jahrhundert bis zu ihrem Aussterben im Jahre 1634 eine wesentliche Rolle in der sehr komplizierten Herrschaftsgeschichte des Dorfes. Schon das älteste Siegel der Gemeinde, an einer Urkunde von 1536 überliefert, zeigt einen Mannsrumpf auf einem Dreiberg, also die volksetymologisch bildliche Umsetzung des Ortsnamens, der in Wirklichkeit von der einstigen Burg auf dem Dorfberg auf die Siedlung übergegangen ist. Das heutige Wappen, das auf Vorschlag des Generallandesarchivs 1899 angenommen wurde, ist nach dem um 1600 gebräuchlichen Siegel gestaltet. Das vordere Feld entspricht dem Wappen der Herren von Geroldseck. Der 1899 in „natürlichen Farben" gehaltene Mannsrumpf ist heute der heraldischen Farbregel entsprechend tingiert.
