Object history
Deutsch: Efringen und Kirchen wurden 1942 zu einer Gemeinde zusammengeschlossen. Am 1. Oktober 1974 wurde die Gemeinde Efringen-Kirchen durch Vereinigung mit acht Gemeinden neu gebildet. Das am 12. August 1977 zusammen mit der Flagge vom Landratsamt Lörrach verliehene Wappen stellt die historischen Herrschaftsverhältnisse der Gemeinde dar. Im gesamten Gemeindegebiet hatte das Hochstift Basel im Mittelalter die Lehenshoheit, Besitz und Rechte. Huttingen und Istein gehörten bis 1803 zur weltlichen Herrschaft des Basler Bischofs. Daran erinnert der rote Baselstab. Über einige der übrigen Ortsteile hatten die Herren von Rötteln bis zum Beginn des 14. Jahrhunderts die Ortsherrschaft inne. Der Löwe in dem vom Generallandesarchiv entworfenen Wappen spielt auf das Röttelner Wappen an.
