Object history
Deutsch: Grafenhausen und Kappel am Rhein haben sich am 1. Juli 1974 zu einer Gemeinde zusammengeschlossen. Das am 27. März 1987 vom Landratsamt Ortenaukreis verliehene Wappen ist auf Wunsch der Gemeinde aus den unveränderten bisherigen Wappen der beiden Ortsteile zusammengesetzt. Diese waren im Jahre 1907 auf Vorschlag des Generallandesarchivs angenommen worden, wobei die Bilder der seit 1617 (Kappel) und 1650 (Grafenhausen) geführten Siegel beider Orte zugrunde gelegt worden waren. Fische und Ruder in Siegeln und Wappen von Kappel dürften durch die Lage der Gemeinde an Rhein und Elz zu erklären sein. Das Grafenhauser Siegel- und Wappenmotiv entzieht sich bis heute einer Deutung.
