Object history
Deutsch: Kitzingen liegt an einem wichtigen Mainübergang gegenüber einem ehemaligen Königshof, der im 8. Jahrhundert in eine Reichsabtei umgewandelt wurde. Erstmals um 1300 wird Kitzingen als Stadt erwähnt. Das Datum der Stadtrechtsverleihung ist jedoch nicht bekannt. Das älteste Siegel datiert aus dem Jahr 1349 und zeigt bereits die wichtige Brücke über den Main in der damaligen Bauform. Alle späteren Siegel und Darstellungen zeigen die Brücke in der jeweiligen Ansicht mit veränderten Bauformen, entsprechend der Baukunst der entsprechenden Zeit. Die Farben Silber und Blau sind seit dem 16. Jahrhundert überliefert. Zeitweise waren die Farben auch vertauscht. Im Jahr 1839 wurden sie amtlich festgelegt. In Wappenbildern des 19. Jahrhunderts wird die Brücke auch schwebend im Schild dargestellt. Wappenführung seit dem 14. Jahrhundert, belegt durch Siegelführung seit 1349.
English: Kitzingen was first mentioned as a city around 1300. The local bridge, which crossed the Main River, was already displayed on the oldest city seals, known by prints since 1349. The pattern remained basically the same. Sometimes the bridge is depicted in an impending version. The tinctures were fixed in 1839, were however in use since the 16th century, sometimes counterchanged.
