Object history
Deutsch: Laufenburg gehörte zur Grundherrschaft des Stiftes Säckingen. Eine Nebenlinie der Grafen von Habsburg hatte seit 1173 die Vogtei über das Stift und damit über Laufenburg und konnte schließlich die Ortsherrschaft in ihre Hand bringen. In der ersten Hälfte des 13. Jahrhunderts entwickelte sich der Ort zur Stadt und wird 1276 erstmals als solche erwähnt. 1386 verkaufte der letzte Graf von Habsburg-Laufenburg die Stadt an Habsburg-Österreich. Der linksrheinische Teil Laufenburgs (Großlaufenburg) wurde 1802 französisch und kam später zum schweizerischen Kanton Aargau, der rechtsrheinische als Kleinlaufenburg 1805 an Baden. 1930 wurde der Ort in Laufenburg (Baden) umbenannt. Schon das älteste Stadtsiegel, dessen frühester Abdruck aus dem Jahre 1275 vorliegt, und alle weiteren Siegel zeigen den Habsburger Löwen. Seit dem 15. Jahrhundert erscheint das Wappenmotiv der Stadtherren in einem Schild. Die Schweizer Stadt Laufenburg führt das gleiche Wappen.
