Object history
Deutsch: Der in den Tälern der Wolfach und ihrer Seitenbäche gelegene Ort tritt 1275 erstmals urkundlich in Erscheinung. Seit dem 13. Jahrhundert übten die Fürstenberger die Herrschaft aus, bis Oberwolfach mit dem gesamten fürstenbergischen Oberamt Wolfach 1806 an Baden fiel. Schon das älteste, mit 1480 datierte Siegel „des Tals in der Wolfach" zeigt das „redende" Bild eines aufgerichteten Wolfes in einem Wappenschild. Dagegen ist der Wolf in den Typaren der Jahre 1647 und 1811 und in den folgenden Stempeln springend, das heißt mit etwas abwärts gebogenen Vorderläufen dargestellt. Bei der Neuzeichnung des Siegelbilds durch das Generallandesarchiv 1903 wurden Wappenfarben nicht festgelegt. Später kam eine Tingierung auf, die der heraldischen Farbregel nicht entsprach. Die heutige Farbgebung und die Wiedergabe des Wappentiers als aufgerichteter Wolf wurden 1956 festgelegt, die Flagge vom Innenministerium am 25. September 1962 verliehen.
