Object history
Deutsch: Ottersweier bildete mit Lauf (Ortenaukreis) bis 1805 ein Untergericht der Reichslandvogtei Ortenau. Von der einmaligen Erwähnung eines nicht überlieferten Gerichtssiegels 1582 abgesehen, führte das Gericht erst seit 1748 eigene Siegel, von denen die zwei frühesten in einem von zwei Sternen begleiteten Schild auf einem Dreiberg ein Ziborium (Speisekelch), aus dem eine Hostie herausragt, und darüber drei Sterne zeigen. In späteren Siegeln und auf Grenzsteinen des 19. Jahrhunderts erscheint das Wappenbild vereinfacht, teilweise auch entstellt. Der Kelch ist möglicherweise als Attribut der Heiligen Barbara zu erklären, der eine Kapelle auf dem Friedhof geweiht war. Das Wappen wurde 1895 nach den Siegelbildern des 18. Jahrhunderts gestaltet und die Tingierung frei gewählt, die Flagge am 26. August 1964 vom Innenministerium verliehen.
