Object history
Deutsch: Rhede ist mit Urkunde des Innenministeriums des Landes Nordrhein-Westfalen vom 26. September 1968 das Recht verliehen worden, das Wappen des am 1. August 1968 aufgelösten Amtes Rhede zu führen. Das Recht zur Führung dieses Wappens wurde dem Amt Rhede durch den Oberpräsidenten der Provinz Westfalen in Münster mit Urkunde vom 13. April 1939 verliehen. Das 1. und 4. Feld zeigen das Wappen der in Westfalen ausgestorbenen Herren von Rhede, die bis in das 14. Jhdt. Ortsherren waren. Das Weberschiffchen und die Pflugschar im 2. und 3. Feld stehen für die Textilindustrie und die Landwirtschaft. Die Farben in den Feldern 3 und 4 wurden 1939 neu festgelegt.
English: The arms are identical to the arms of the Amt Rhede, granted on April 13, 1939; the present arms were granted on September 26, 1968. The first and fourth quarter show the arms of the Lords of Rhede, the oldest known owners of the local castle. The name of the town is also derived from this family. The second quarter shows a shuttle as a symbol for the textile industry in the town. The third shows a plowshare as a symbol for the agriculture.
