Object history
Deutsch: Die Gemeinde ist durch den Zusammenschluss von Eschbach und Stegen am 1. Januar 1975 entstanden. Am 1. Juli 1974 war bereits Wittental nach Stegen eingemeindet worden. Das mit der Flagge am 31. Januar 1977 vom Landratsamt Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald verliehene Wappen ist in mehrerlei Hinsicht „redend": Die Esche, die bereits im Gemeindewappen von Eschbach begegnet (verliehen 1962), steht im neuen Wappen sowohl für diesen Ortsteil, symbolisiert aber auch den Eschbach, der das Gemeindegebiet in ganzer Länge durchzieht. Der Bohlweg (Steg) erinnert an die hölzernen Wege durch das sumpfige Gelände am Ausgang des Eschbachtales. Sie gaben den Höfen oberhalb des Meierhofs Weiler den Namen, der heute für die gesamte Gemeinde gilt.
