Object history
Deutsch: Todtmoos bildete eine Gesamtgemeinde, die aus den Ortsgemeinden Vordertodtmoos, Hintertodtmoos, Todtmoos-Au, -Glashütte, -Schwarzenbach und -Weg bestand. 1935 wurden die Sondergemarkungen aufgehoben. In der zweiten Hälfte des 19. Jahrhunderts gebrauchte die Gesamtgemeinde Siegel, die auf einer Wiese ein Kreuz und eine Tanne zeigen. Im Jahre 1911 wurde das noch heute gültige Wappen für die Gesamtgemeinde geschaffen, dem das vorherige Siegelbild im wesentlichen zugrunde liegt. Das Kreuz dürfte als Zeichen für die Wallfahrt zum Gnadenbild in der Pfarrkirche von Todtmoos aufzufassen sein. Die Tanne weist auf die Zugehörigkeit der Gemeinde zur vorderösterreichischen Grafschaft Hauenstein bis 1805 hin, während der Stern angeblich aus dem letzten Farbstempel vor der Schaffung des Wappens entnommen ist.
