Object history
Deutsch: Der rote Drache erinnert an die von 1297 bis zur Säkularisation 1803 andauernde Ortsherrschaft des Stifts Waldsassen; der Drache war seit Mitte des 15. Jahrhunderts das auf die Stifterfamilie, die Diepoldinger Markgrafen von Cham-Vohburg, verweisende Hauptwappen der Zisterzienserabtei. Der silberne Schild mit blauem Balken zeigt das Stammwappen der Landgrafen von Leuchtenberg, die ihre Güter in Wiesau 1297 an das Kloster Waldsassen verkauften. Wiesau erhielt dieses Wappen 1933 mit der Erhebung zum Markt.
