Object history
Deutsch: Der Windhund ist aus dem Wappen des 1142 gegründeten Prämonstratenserklosters Windberg übernommen, das das Gemeindeleben in wirtschaftlicher und kultureller Hinsicht seit dem Hochmittelalter stark prägt. Der Dreiberg verweist auf die geografische Lage der Gemeinde auf den Vorbergen des Bayerischen Waldes. Der Windhund auf dem Dreiberg ergibt eine für den Namen Windberg redende heraldische Figur. Die Lilie, ein Marienattribut, verweist auf das Marienpatrozinium der Klosterkirche. Die zwei gekreuzten Kerzen sollen an den heiligen Blasius erinnern, der als Nebenpatron in der Gemeinde besonders verehrt wird. Die Feldfarben Silber und Blau sind vom bekannten Rautenwappen der Grafen von Bogen hergeleitet, die als Stifter des Klosters Windberg und als mächtige Dynasten in der Frühgeschichte des Gemeindegebiets von größter Bedeutung waren. Ihr Wappen ging 1242 an die Wittelsbacher und später an das Land Bayern über.
