Object history

Nach einer eingehenden gutachtlichen Stellungnahme des Bayerischen Hauptstaatsarchivs in München wurde von Architekt Emil Werz der Entwurf des Wappens gefertigt und vom Gemeinderat bei der Regierung der Verleihungsantrag gestellt. Das Bayerische Hauptstaatsarchiv hat den historischen Ursprung des Wappens ausdrücklich bestätigt. Es handelt sich heraldisch um ein sog. "sprechendes Wappen" (Darstellung einer Esche und einer Au). Das Wappen ist bis 1326 und 1265 zurück historisch nachweisbar. Es wurde damals von den Herren von Aschau, die Lehensmannen der Grafen von Falkenstein waren, geführt und später von mehreren angesehenen Aschauer Familien übernommen.

Neben der Form mit der Esche hat auch eine solche ohne Baum existiert, doch ist diese offenbar jüngeren Ursprungs.
