Italiano: Sorta nel 1082, per opera della contessa Matilde di Canossa, sul dosso omonimo. Il tempio, a 3 navate con 3 absidi curve, è d’impianto basilicale, con solide, massicce colonne in cotto e cripta. Elementi originali, nel più ampio discorso delle chiese matildiche mantovane e del romanico italiano, sono la facciata mediana e il motivo delle tre absidi segnate da mezze colonne. Nel corso dei secoli molti artisti contribuirono a decorare l’edificio, anche se purtroppo opere rilevanti di pittori come il Pinturicchio e il Ghirlandaio sono andate perdute. Numerosi restauri hanno cercato di riportare la chiesa all’aspetto originario; quello più impegnativo risale al 1932, quando vennero riedificate intere parti andate distrutte e l’edificio divenne Famedio dei Caduti.
