| Object history |
Deutsch: Elchesheim und Illingen haben sich am 1. Juli 1971 zu einer Gemeinde zusammengeschlossen. Das Wappen wurde zusammen mit der Flagge am 21. März 1979 vom Landratsamt Rastatt verliehen. Das Kreuz weist auf die historischen Verbindungen beider Ortsteile zum Hochstift Speyer hin. 1102 bestätigte Kaiser Heinrich IV. dem Bischof von Speyer den Besitz von Gütern in Elchesheim, das hierbei erstmals erwähnt wird. Seit dem Ende des 13. Jahrhunderts gehörte der Ort den Markgrafen von Baden, worauf die rot-goldene Tingierung des Schildhauptes Bezug nimmt. Das bis ins 16. Jahrhundert linksrheinisch gelegene Illingen war bis 1802 Teil des Territoriums des Hochstifts. Der Wellenschnitt des Schildhaupts weist auf die Lage der Gemeinde am Rhein hin, während die Fische, deren Zahl im Hinblick auf die beiden Ortsteile gewählt wurde, an den früher bedeutenden Fischfang erinnern sollen. |
