Object history
Deutsch: Die Herren von Hornberg legten um 1300 um den Wirtschaftshof ihrer unteren Burg auf der Gemarkung Reichenbach die Stadt Hornberg an. Im 15. Jahrhundert gingen Herrschaft und Stadt an Württemberg über. 1810 kamen sie zu Baden. 1971 wurde Niederwasser, 1974 Reichenbach eingemeindet. Die Herren von Hornberg führten als „redendes" Wappen über einem Dreiberg zwei einander zugewandte Hörner mit Schnüren. Die Tingierung ist uneinheitlich. Die Stadt übernahm das Wappen der Gründerfamilie in abgewandelter Form. Seit dem ältesten, aus dem 14. Jahrhundert stammenden Stadtsiegel (frühester Abdruck von 1428), das das Siegelbild im Dreipass zeigt, bringen alle späteren Wappensiegel zwei abgewendete einfache Hörner über einem Dreiberg. Er wurde im 18. Jahrhundert zum Fünfberg, im 19. Jahrhundert zum Schollenberg und Einberg. 1901 zeichnete das Generallandesarchiv das Wappen nach dem Siegel von 1798 mit einem Fünfberg, wobei auch die bis dahin unklaren Farben festgelegt wurden. Heute wird das Wappen wieder mit dem Dreiberg geführt.
