Object history
Deutsch: Thüngen wird erstmals 788 urkundlich erwähnt im Zusammenhang mit einer Schenkung an das Kloster Fulda. Nach mehreren Besitzwechseln kam es 1333 an die Herren von Thüngen, Ministerialen des Hochstifts Würzburg. 1677 belehnten die Herren von Thüngen den Würzburger Bischof mit einem Viertel des Schlosses und des Marktes. Damit war der Ort bis 1848 Kondominat der Herren von Thüngen und des Juliusspitals in Würzburg. Das kommt durch die drei gewellten roten Pfähle aus dem Wappen der Lutz`schen Linie der Herren von Thüngen und den Farben Rot und Silber des Hochstifts Würzburg zum Ausdruck. Das Zahnrad steht für die ortsansässige Industrie, die Ähren stellen den landwirtschaftlichen Charakter der Gemeinde dar.
