Object history
Deutsch: Der im mittleren Wiesental gelegene Ort gehörte schon zur Zeit seiner ersten schriftlichen Erwähnung am Beginn des 14. Jahrhunderts zur sanktblasianischen Talvogtei Schönau. Mit dem vorderösterreichischen Breisgau kam Utzenfeld 1806 an Baden und wurde 1809 selbstständige Gemeinde. Auf der Huldigungsliste für Großherzog Karl von 1811 ist das erste Siegel der Gemeinde überliefert - ein reines Schriftsiegel, wie die übrigen Siegel des 19. Jahrhunderts auch. Anlässlich der Überprüfung und Neugestaltung der badischen Gemeindesiegel entwarf das Generallandesarchiv im Jahre 1902 das Wappen. Es enthält die Attribute der heiligen Appolonia, der Patronin der Kapelle des Dorfes, die 1875 in der Dorfmitte neu erbaut wurde. Nach der Legende riss man der Glaubenszeugin mit einer Zange die Zähne aus. Der Palmzweig ist das Zeichen des Märtyrertodes, den sie in Alexandria im 3. Jahrhundert erlitten hat. Die Flagge wurde am 1. Oktober 1993 vom Landratsamt Lörrach verliehen.
