Object history
Deutsch: Das Wappen geht auf das der Herren von Runkel zurück, den ältesten bekannten Herrschern des Ortes. Die Familie errichtete 1159 eine Burg in der Nähe des Dorfes und verlieh 1315 die Stadtrechte. Die Familie starb Ende des 14. Jahrhunderts aus. Die Stadt verwendete das Wappen mindestens seit dem 15. Jahrhundert in ihren Siegeln.
English: The arms are derived from the arms of the Lords of Runkel, the oldest known rulers of the village. The family built in 1159 a castle near the village and granted city rights in 1315. The family became extinct in the late 14th century. The city used the arms in its seals at least since the 15th century.
